Venting Procedure S800 Beam Line:

Target Section

Panel mate: s800vac.MT2, page 05.

  1. Close gate valves (I246GV and I255GV) of the main scattering chamber section using the panel mate (upper left and lower right on page).
  2. Turn off the turbo pump controller by pushing the stop switches to the left (the controller is located on the wooden platform under the beam pipe in S3).  The green light should turn off.
  3. If it is on, turn off the ion gauge. The controller is located under the beam line, on next to the turbo pump controller.
  4. Wait for five minutes to let the turbo pumps spin down.
  5. Close the hand valve between the turbo and roughing pumps.  This valve is located on the far side of the beam line.
  6. Open hand venting valve on the near side of the cross piece (You may open as fast as you wish).
  7. Note that you are venting to air so there is no danger of over pressurizing the chamber.
  8. When the pressure is at atmosphere (~760 torr) close the venting valve.
  9. Ready to access the beam line.
